Blockstream Team

Menlo Park, California, November 18, 2025 - Today, Blockstream announced that it signed a definitive agreement to integrate the technology and expertise of Distributed Lab, a software engineering company known for its Bitcoin, cryptography, and smart contract expertise. The purchase strengthens Blockstream’s position across consumer, enterprise, and institutional use cases by expanding its team, product roadmap, and partner network. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Distributed Lab team members will bring their deep expertise in secure blockchain applications and smart contract development to focus on advancing Blockstream’s mission. The agreement includes adding Distributed Lab’s proprietary software modules, developer tooling, and intellectual property to Blockstream’s platforms, including the Blockstream app, Jade hardware wallet, Liquid Network services, tokenization, Simplicity, and enterprise custody solutions.

“Distributed Lab has built a strong reputation for security, reliability, and practical Bitcoin engineering,” said Jeff Boortz, Chief Product Officer at Blockstream. “Integrating their technology and leveraging their engineering expertise will accelerate our roadmap for enterprise custody, research, and Liquid-based financial applications. ”

“Blockstream has long set the benchmark for Bitcoin infrastructure,” said Dr. Pavlo Kravchenko, co-founder of Distributed Lab. “We are excited to be a part of the Blockstream ecosystem as we focus on accelerating delivery, expanding our reach, and strengthening our shared commitment to secure, open-source innovation.”

“Having their team’s expertise and their technology will accelerate our roadmap for enterprise custody, payment services, and Liquid-based financial applications. I am excited about what we will deliver for developers, businesses, and Bitcoiners around the world. The pace of innovation is only going to increase from here.” said Naji Bekhazi, SVP of Engineering.

The strategic rationale of this initiative includes:

  • accelerating delivery across consumer, enterprise and platform products,
  • adding breadth and depth of knowledge in Bitcoin and blockchain technologies,
  • advancing developer tooling for the Liquid ecosystem including Simplicity language and app development,
  • bolstering Blockstream’s research with well-respected cryptographers and blockchain researchers.

The transaction is expected to close in the coming weeks, subject to customary closing conditions.
